Hulda Sheley Downing

-Savannah - Hulda Sheley Downing, 85, died October 9, 2009 at Memorial University Medical Center. She was born in Sylvania, Georgia, daughter of the late Hugh H. and Anna Reddick Sheley. She lived most of her life in Savannah and retired in 1989 from Georgia Regional Hospital. Mrs. Downing was a member of Whitefield United Methodist Church where she served as President of the George Whitefield Sunday School Class, Treasurer of the Trustees Memorial Fund and Circle Leader of the Mary Culler White Circle. She was also a member of Al-Anon, Tuesday Lunch Club and the Daffin Heights Garden Club. Her husband, Ernest E. Downing, Jr. and siblings, Stacy, Winsley, Lenelle, Jewell and Genevieve Sheley preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Debra Ann Downing of Savannah; Roxanna "Rocky" Semken
and her husband, Frank of Savannah; brother, Esley Sheley and his wife, Lucille of Sylvania; sister-in-law, Mary Sheley of Manning, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2009 at Whitefield United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Grover Bell officiating.
Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances: Whitefield United Methodist Church, 728 East 55th. St., Savannah, GA 31405 or the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, 225 Candler Dr., Savannah, GA 31405.
